Adult Kobudo Training At ZuiUn Dojo

Martial Arts Rooted in Tradition — Still Relevant Today

Our Adult Kobudo program immerses students in the study of authentic Japanese martial arts. Using the TenChiJin Ryaku no Maki, as developed by Hatsumi Sensei, we build our curriculum on a foundation of time‑tested principles. Training blends classical methodology with modern educational practices, ensuring that students learn effectively while honoring the art’s origins.

At ZuiUn Dojo, we carry forward the legacy of Japan’s samurai and ninja, bringing their ancient skills and philosophies into the modern world in a way that remains practical, meaningful, and deeply connected to tradition.

Training With Purpose and Precision

At our dojo—whether training in taijutsu (unarmed techniques) or bukiwaza (weapons techniques)—we focus on helping students truly embody the techniques they are studying. This is achieved through a blend of high‑repetition practice to internalize the fundamentals and deep, thoughtful study to understand how each technique works and why it works. This method develops genuine skill and adaptability, rather than simple memorization.

In a typical training session, our group follows a structure similar to this:

  • Junan Taiso — Calisthenic-like stretching and conditioning exercises

  • Ukemi Gata Taihenjutsu — Rolling, breakfalls and movement skills

  • Sanshin no Kata — Bujinkan's three Heart Patterns that teach proper movement

While we occasionally adjust our training structure, this is the standard format we follow at our dojo. Students of all ranks train together, learning side‑by‑side and supporting one another as they study the curriculum. The Bujinkan is a truly unique martial art—born on the battlefields of Sengoku‑era Japan, yet still deeply relevant in today’s world. Its principles, strategies, and movement continue to offer practical value for modern practitioners.

  • Kihon Happo Gata — Eight basic techniques that are the foundations of our art

  • Appropriate Curriculum Practice — Study of material for your specific rank

  • Session Focus — Practice of a topic of focus for the training session
